The Guiseppe Sciacca Awards International, honours excellence in the fields of the arts, culture, science and technology. The event is held annually at the Pontifical Urbaniana University, Vatican City, Rome.
Master Jewellers and designers Yiorgos and Fotis Poniros from Greece, were amongst this year’s recipients of the award. The Poniros brothers also have the privilege of designing one-of-a-kind medallions and rings, on an annual basis, for the Cardinals Of The Vatican.
Other highly notable recipients were Eleni Antoniadou, a Greek scientist and a women’s rights activist, currently working in the fields of Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Research. Previously, Eleni was working as a researcher to study the effects of changes in atmospheric pressure on the nervous systems of astronauts at the NASA Mars Exploration Lab.
